Card templates

A card template is a reusable complete card design. Instead of copying the same layout for every room or sensor, the template contains the shared card and each instance supplies only the values that are different.

This section explains when card templates are useful, how templates are organized, and where to continue for creating templates and passing variables into them.

Reuse a complete card design

A template contains the shared card once. Each card instance then supplies only what is different.

See Using card templates for a complete example.

Change selected values per card

Use Template variables for the parts that differ, such as the entity, label, minimum/maximum value, or another setting.

Keep distributed and personal templates separate

The card supports system and user template catalogs. Keep personal templates in the user catalog so distributed/system templates can be updated independently.
